Nick Deaver

West Texas native, Nick Deaver, earned a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Texas Tech University before establishing himself first in Connecticut and then in Austin. Founded on the belief that the art of making one's place for the spirit is personal, Nick Deaver Architect emphasizes meaning and connection in the everyday human experience.

His nine national and twenty-eight regional design awards range from single-family residences to genetics laboratories. Recognized as a leading voice in design, his Killingworth residence was unanimously voted the national Renaissance Remodeling Project of the year, receiving a 92' New England Regional Council/AIA Design Award, a '93 AIA Connecticut/Metropolitan Hartford Residential Design Award and a 93' American Wood Council Merit Award. That same year, Nick's winning entry for the Connecticut State Parks Competition was selected from 52 submissions resulting in designs that continue to be constructed throughout the Connecticut State Parks system. His residential projects belong to history, the land and the soul often reinventing mundane structures into places that connect us with our world. LeanToo is an expression of this and earned a 2021 National AIA Housing Award, 2020 Texas Tech College of Architecture Design Honor Award, 2019 Texas Society of Architect's Design Award, and a 2017 AIA Austin Design Award.

His collaborations with his daughter Jes Deaver who later became his design partner, craft the unique stories of people and place. Profiled in Residential Design and Western Art and Architecture magazines, as well as the Australia-based podcast TalkDesign, they explored how meaning and beauty are discovered on a journey with others. Their project, OFFbeat was filmed for America ByDesign, and earned a 2026 National AIA Housing Award, 2025 Texas Tech College of Architecture Design Honor award, 2024 ARCHITECT magazine Design Award, 2024 Preservation Austin Award, and a 2024 AIA Austin Design Award of Excellence.
