Welcome Home | Austin, TX

This long and narrow residence was concealed behind a fence.  The home’s entry and backdoor were only inches apart creating a confused and unwelcome invitation.  The project began as a new landscaping scheme and repair of the home’s roof and siding.  A galvanized standing seam metal roof crowns a vanilla colored cement board siding to make a dramatic linear expression.  A new entry and a protected outdoor room and garden seam together interior and exterior spaces.  Shade trees and concrete stepping stones take the place of a turn-around drive effectively banishing the automobile from the new lawn that comfortably separates the home from the curb and street.   A wide fir wood and glass door greets visitors and leads to an appropriate entry for welcoming guests.

Morning coffee is enjoyed under a timber arbor stained to match the concrete structures of the neighborhood and garden.  Concrete porches appear to hover above terracing lawns and flower beds.  A cedar fence filters air, light, and views to and from the private outdoor room which contains a concrete countertop and raised planting bed.
